Heather is having a bad week and it all starts with the first challenge.
The girl's team up with their own personal designers at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising to transform a frumpy-looking light blue dress into a new outfit that conveys each models personality. The girls then model their new dresses on the runway. The girl with the best walk and the best explanation for their outfit wins a chance to appear in a holiday spread for Seventeen Magazine.
Bianca's designer wants to go with a Cleopatra in a tu-tu type of look that Bianca is definitely not feeling, but she still seems to pull it off with attitude on the runway. Heather's designer has trouble working with her. They decide on an ocean-inspired look, but when she gets to the end of the runway, she completely freezes up and can't get the words out to explain her look to the judges. Lisa has trouble controlling her nerves as she speaks, too and cries when she gets backstage. But at least her outfit looked amazing—her designer went for an elegant party girl look.
My favorite was Jenah’s rockstar ballerina getup, but the judges, Director of Elite Model Management Neal Hamil and Seventeen Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Ann Shoket, give the prize to the Challenge Champ—Saleisha. She was cute and did a great job walking, but her outfit didn’t really wow me. Saleisha picks Bianca and Lisa to be in the Holiday jewelry shoot for Seventeen with her.
When the girls get home, Heather is upset about her day and just wants to get in the shower. She calls the shower first, but Saleisha and Lisa jump in before her anyway. This sets Heather off! She barges in the shower and starts yelling at them. I think Saleisha said it best when she said it looks like Heather wanted to do some type of voodoo on her.
Then the girl’s get dropped off in the middle of the desert! As their bus takes off without them, the girls wonder what they are doing there until they see a familiar figure approaching them from a distance—Mr. Jay! It’s photo shoot time!
The girls have to convey desperation and frustration while selling the dress they have on as they pose next to a burning car in the desert. Bianca comes through and rocks this shoot. Miss J. later jokes in panel that her picture looks so angry it’s almost as if she set the car on fire! Heather loses her confidence and it shows during the shoot. Tyra tells her that she needs to learn to compartmentalize her emotions so that a bad day or situation won’t affect her when she’s in front of the camera. Chantal has to deal with a dress that keeps flying up during the shoot but it works to her advantage because it truly does get her frustrated. Saleisha starts out posing a little too much but gets better as she gets more frustrated with Mr. Jay’s comments. Ambreal is “too posey” as well, and her body language does not impress the judges. Lisa says it’s hard to be glamorous with a burning car, and she ends up look awkward in her shoot. Mr. Jay says she doesn’t work her outfit. The judges think she looks squat in her picture. The judges say Jenah has excellent body language during the shoot.
Although Heather freaks out about being the one to go home because of her bad week, it was Lisa (shocking!) and Ambreal that ended up in the bottom two. Not surprisingly it was Ambreal that was sent home. The remaining six ladies are on their way to China!
