Many people question the claims presented by the Lutz family in the book that the movie is based upon. The movie itself takes the claims from the book and definitely skews them. Ghosts don’t brainwash and blind priests, they won’t tamper with your car so your brakes don’t work and they don’t cause statues to crumble to dust. Taken at face value, some of the moments in the film are slightly believable. The dog seems to be more aware of whatever is in the house, (a common report in our field), the daughter has an imaginary friend, (though hers is of malevolent nature, many times in haunted homes children seem to make imaginary friends), and items go missing on their own. Other than that, this movie isn’t realistic at all.
