In her new romantic comedy Leap Year, Amy Adams plays a woman who's eager to get married. So eager, in fact, that she decides to go against convention and propose to her man. So, what does Adams think of this role reversal? Totally fine -- just not for her.
"If it works within the specific relationship, then it's great," she tells iVillage. "I knew it wouldn't work for my relationship, so I held off."
Luckily, Adams' fiancé, actor Darren Le Gallo, took the reins and proposed to her in Central Park in April 2008. "It was very sweet," she says. "I was not expecting it at all." And now the couple is expecting their first child in the spring.
With a marriage and a baby on the way, Adams, 35, has undergone a lot of changes over the past few years. "I think I've learned to surrender a bit more to life's possibilities," she says. "I think it's just a part of growing up. I think I was really becoming unhappy trying to control stuff because it actually doesn't work -- or it didn't work for me."
