Are you psyched for Amy Poehler and Tina Fey to host the Golden Globe Awards? Well, prepare to be even more psyched!
The comedians-slash-BFFs have recorded their first promo for the event, and it's just as funny and charming as 20 seconds could possibly be.
The Golden Globes are known to be a little bit more irreverent than the other major awards ceremonies (possibly because the nominees are usually drinking at their tables during the show!). They didn't have a host at all until three years ago, when Ricky Gervais became the emcee. But we think Poehler and Fey are the ideal duo to take the reins. Why are they the best possible choice? So many reasons, and here are three of them!
1. Amy already knows how to liven up an awards show. Remember at the Emmys, when all the Best Supporting Actress nominees wore funny glasses? Amy's idea. Or the following year, when they performed a mock beauty pageant? Also Amy's idea. How about this past year, when Julia Louis-Dreyfus "mixed up" her Emmy win speech with Poehler's? Yep -- Amy again. None of these little gags were officially approved by the producers, so we can't wait to see what she comes up with when she's actually in charge!
Amy and Tina are masters of improv. Every great master of ceremonies in history has had one thing in common: the ability to think fast on their feet. Poehler and Fey literally met in an improv troupe, so if there's one thing they know how to do, it's spontaneous comedy. The more they go off-script, the more fun the ceremony will be -- though, as we know from their Weekend Update days on SNL, they do just fine with a script, too.
We love their characters. They could literally do the entire evening as 30 Rock's Liz Lemon and Parks and Recreation's Leslie Knope, and we'd be thrilled. They could bring back their Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton impressions, and we'd cheer. Or they can just be themselves, with or without the "classic Hollywood accents." Doesn't matter -- we're along for the ride!
The Golden Globes air live on Jan. 13 on NBC.
