Anderson Cooper "Done" With Star Jones Feud

After the Today contributor accused the CNN anchor of coming out for a ratings boost, Anderson fought back and is ready to put the matter to rest

Anderson Cooper is walking away from his feud with Star Jones. The CNN anchor, who came out as gay this July, was angered by Jones' accusation that he did it as a ratings ploy. Cooper finally retaliated on last Thursday's episode of his daytime show Anderson. (Watch the clip below!)

In a discussion with his guest, Bravo host and longtime friend Andy Cohen, Cooper said that Star's comment was the one negative part of his coming-out experience. He pointed out that he declared his sexuality in the least-hyped way possible (an email to The Daily Beast), and that neither of his shows were on the air at the time.

"If I wanted to boost ratings, I would have announced it on a 'very special episode,' and there would have been promos for weeks," Cooper said half-jokingly.

He added that Jones was a hypocrite for attacking him, when she was "hawking her wedding every single day to get free products when she was on The View," not to mention lying about her gastric bypass surgery.

Jones sniped back on Twitter, saying, "I was wrong. @andersoncooper didn't come out as a ratings ploy. He used ME talking about him coming out @todayshow as a ratings ploy. #mybad."

Just as their feud threatened to reach a boiling point, Cooper decided he'd had enough. During a recent taping of Anderson, he revealed that he'd turned down a Today show invitation to debate Jones on the air.

"I said my peace on Star Jones, I am not one to have a feud," Cooper told his audience. "She tweeted back something. I said my peace and then she tweeted me and I'm not responding. Actually, the Today show tried to book me to go on with Star Jones so we could tussle. I was like, I've got nothing more to say, nor do I want to be in a room with her. I'm done."

Wait a minute -- did a TV personality just walk away from a ratings-boosting feud? That's something you don't see every day!

As for Jones, she seems determined to keep the animosity going. On Tuesday, she tweeted, "Someone is a LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE. I would NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES agree to a 'debate' on my accurate statements. BS."

In recent years, Jones has publicly feuded with Lisa Rinna, Barbara Walters, NeNe Leakes and Rosie O'Donnell. We think Star and Anderson's track records speak for themselves, don't you?
