In a shocking new memoir, tennis champ Andre Agassi drops the bombshell that he was using crystal meth on a regular basis in the late '90s.

"I can't speak to addiction, but a lot of people would say that if you're using anything as an escape, you have a problem," the athlete told People.com.

In his new book, Open, Andre spills the trials and tribulations of his career, his marriage to Brooke Shields (which ended in divorce), his current love with Steffi Graff and what led him to using drugs.

Agassi says he's not too concerned about losing the respect of his fans, once they get wind of his drug use. "I was worried for a moment, but not for long..." he told People.com. "I wore my heart on my sleeve and my emotions were always written on my face. I was actually excited about telling the world the whole story."

Excerpts from his new tell-all appear in the latest issues of PEOPLE and Sports Illustrated.
