Angelina Jolie goes out on dates with Brad Pitt for her kids -- or at least that’s what she recently told the Daily Mail’s You Magazine.
"You have to make time when you are not Mom and Dad once in a while," she said, sounding kinda like a couple's counselor. "The most important thing is that you love your children, but you also have to stay focused on each other so that you stay strong. And you staying strong as a couple keeps the kids in an even better place."
Frankly, of all the reasons I would go on a date with the studly Mr. Pitt, “for the children” would be last on my list. But seriously: Like many relationship experts, Jolie believes that parents need to nurture their relationship in order to be the best parents to their children. We moms often lose sight of the things that originally drew us to the men in our lives and get bogged down with feedings, naps, carpools, soccer games, homework -- the list goes on. Each addition steals another minute of time that we could be using to focus on our relationships. So, we put love and marriage on auto-pilot and hope for the best.
A date night once a week is actually a great way to spend time with the man in your life. Having a set night keeps you on track and helps to ensure you don’t skip weeks or let busy lives get in the way of a little one-on-one time. Yes, it’s also beneficial to the kids, but in more ways than Angie probably knows. Having someone else watch the kids helps them grow and learn to adapt to new people and situations. And if your sitter is a family member, it gives them more time to bond with your babies.
So, I think we should all make a call to our sitters ASAP, oh, and to our jewelers as well. I know diamonds would make me a happier mom -- how about you? What?! We’re doing it for the children.
