Can you see Angelina Jolie as an Egyptian Queen? Well, you just may get your chance, as the star's name is being thrown around to portray Cleopatra in a film based on the upcoming biography Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life by Stacy Schiff, out this November.
At a lunch this week in Manhattan to promote the book, publisher Michael Pietsch revealed that film producer Scott Rudin has bought the rights to Schiff's book, and he envisions Jolie in the role. A rep for Rudin's office confirmed the talk to USA Today, saying the project "is being developed for and with Jolie."
So, how does the book's author feel about the Salt star taking on the starring spot in the film adaptation? Pretty thrilled, actually.
"Physically, she's the perfect look," Schiff said.
Cleopatra was most famously played by Elizabeth Taylor in a 1963 film, in which Cleopatra's Roman lover Marc Antony was played by Taylor's real-life love, Richard Burton. So, we can't help but wonder.... could Jolie's life partner, Brad Pitt, be cast as the new Marc Antony?
We'll have to wait and see, but, in the meantime, it's hardly a bad visual!
