In Angie Harmon's ubiquitous "Got Milk" magazine ad, she's juggling a script, a glass of milk and her three adorable daughters (two munchkins in pink tutus and a newborn). Her goofy milk mustache notwithstanding, the photo depicts Harmon as the very picture of a frazzled working mom. (Presumably, her hunky NFL hubby, Jason Sehorn, is in a locker room somewhere.) "Welcome to my life," reads the caption. "Sure, I see it as a glass half full, but it's still a lot to handle…"
In fact, Harmon recently considered stepping out of Hollywood's spotlight for good. "We just had another baby, and I've got three little girls now," she told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "So my husband and I were going to move out of Los Angeles and go somewhere in the South, where I can raise some strong Southern women with morals, ethics and values."
But it looks like the 37-year-old Texas native was offered a career opportunity too good to pass up: Tonight, she debuts as a Boston-based homicide detective in TNT's latest crime drama, Rizzoli & Isles (premiering Monday at 10 p.m. EST).
With hits like The Closer and Saving Grace, TNT is fast developing a rep as a place for ass-kicking female crime fighters. Rizzoli & Isles clearly aspires to that kind sexy/fierce vibe: It pairs Harmon's cop with another strong, competent, and easy-on-the-eyes female -- a medical examiner played by NCIS's Sasha Alexander.
The role is familiar territory for Harmon. In 2007, she played a homicide detective among four crime-fighting gal pals in ABC's short-lived Women's Murder Club. And, of course, she's best known for her breakout role in Law & Order (though not as a cop; she played an Assistant District Attorney).
"I did a lot of research with the Boston homicide unit," she told the Star-Telegraph. "If I wasn't an actor, I would be a homicide detective. I'm serious! I jumped right in with both feet. I was like, 'Let me in! Let me see!'… I thought I was going to be a lot more squeamish. But no."
Which is why her family is still in L.A. But just for now: "I can save retirement for another day," she says. "But once we finish shooting this first season, sometime in August, we're definitely going to move, for the kids."
