Ann Romney Faces Kitchen Drama During 'GMA' Guest Host Spot!

While guest hosting the show, the GOP hopeful's wife had a bit of a snafu in the kitchen

Ann Romney, whose popularity is soaring, looked lovely in a red dress as guest co-host on Good Morning America this morning. And the show allowed her to play things completely safe by staying away from politics -- Romney entered during the softer 8 o’clock hour after most of the election business had already been discussed.

But it wasn’t all rosy for the candidate’s wife, who got into a bit of trouble in the GMA kitchen. She noticed a batch of her Welsh cakes were burning, and quickly hustled to remove them from the over-heated griddle.

Off screen, George Stephanopoulos tried to get Romney to discuss her cakes, and she replied with, “They’re burning. I’ve got a cooking emergency. The griddle’s too hot. But I’m here! I’m making Welsh cakes,” according to a transcript on the Washington Post

Romney did recover, telling a story about how her grandmother made a similar recipe, and how she is passing it down to her grandchildren.

But later in the show, during a segment in which Stanley Tucci hawked his new cookbook, the actor also experienced burning -- this time of his butter. “They burned my Welsh cakes too,” Romney sympathized. Eventually, the butter “exploded,” as someone on set characterized the incident, prompting Romney to lament, “I don’t know, my plane almost goes down, now I almost get burned with butter.”

Romney did stay away from the camera during many of the segments, including ones related to Dancing With the Stars, Jersey Shore and Katie Couric, who talked about an upcoming episode of her show that will discuss men who use the Internet to stalk children as sex-crime victims -- hardly a light topic.

Later in the show, Romney returned in Times Square to interview Lord Ludger and Rebecca Hart, the thoroughbred horse and U.S. paralympian rider. She took that time to talk about how horses served as therapy for her as an MS patient, and how they can help folks with various other conditions as well.

Awkwardly closing out the show, Stephanopoulos said, “Thank you to Ann Romney. Sorry we nearly blew you up.”

It should be noted that Michelle Obama was also invited to GMA and apparently is still working out her schedule. But after Romney’s appearance, maybe the first lady will decide she can’t stand the heat and better stay out of the GMA kitchen!
