Ann Romney Loves 'Modern Family' -- But Is It Mutual?

The creator of the gay-friendly show offered a sarcastic response after Romney said it's her favorite TV series

Ann Romney seems to have gotten more than she bargained for when she told The Insider that her favorite TV show is Modern Family.

The wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was being profiled by The Insider alongside current first lady, Michelle Obama. The women were asked to name their favorite TV shows -- and the question seemed innocent enough. But Romney's answer sparked a snarky response from Modern Family co-creator Steve Levitan.

"Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show," he tweeted. "We'll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam's wedding. As soon as it's legal."

Levitan is referencing Modern Family's gay couple played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet. Mitch and Cam (one of the three central couples in the show) adopted a young daughter named Lily in the series' first episode.

The Romneys have put up a strong anti-gay marriage front during their campaign for presidential office, with Mitt even clarifying that "marriage is between one man and one woman" back in June. As a mother of five and grandmother of 18, maybe Ann relates to one of the other two families on the show, instead. But we'd sure love to see her take the offered role!

It turns out that Ann, 63, isn't the only Modern Family fan in the race. President Barack Obama told People about his love for the ABC comedy last week. "For the girls and me, Modern Family, that's our favorite show." Meanwhile, the first lady said that her favorite TV channel is HGTV.
