Romney has been portrayed as a “corporate wife” and a woman “who has never worked a day in her life.” So it may be surprising to note the circumstances under which she received her undergraduate degree. After one year at Brigham Young University, Romney deferred her education until after the birth of sons Tagg and Matt. She later took night classes at Harvard University's Extension School and transferred those credits to BYU to earn her undergraduate degree. While carrying son Josh, she graduated with a BA in French from BYU in 1975 while "taking exams with babies in my lap and nursing." She did this with no outside employees to assist with child care or housekeeping.
