Anne Hathaway is hoping that Katie Holmes can take a joke. When the Les Miserables star hosted Saturday Night Live in November, she reprised her fabulous impression of Holmes (first seen when Hathaway hosted in 2010). The studio audience couldn't stop laughing at Anne's whispery voice and lopsided smile -- but Katie herself has yet to share her reaction to the impersonation.
"I have not heard from Katie," Hathaway admitted on Monday's Ellen DeGeneres Show. (Watch the clip below!)
The newly married actress revealed that the original concept for the sketch actually brought Holmes in on the joke. "What I really wanted to have happen, because this is the second time I've done Katie...I wanted Katie to come on the show and do me, and I wanted to do this rap about how awesome I think Katie Holmes is," said Hathaway. The problem? Holmes is currently starring in Dead Accounts on Broadway, "so she was busy."
Hathaway did ask for permission from another actress she impersonated on SNL: Claire Danes. "I talked to her before I did it just to get her blessing, and she just said, 'Go for it,'" Hathaway said of the Homeland star. Watch a clip of her Homeland skit here:
Coincidentally, Ellen DeGeneres also made an appearance in that same SNL episode, where she was played by new cast member Kate McKinnon. ("I'm just flattered by it... I think she's great, I think she's hilarious," said Ellen.) According to Hathaway, McKinnon was a nervous wreck beforehand, because she just wanted "to do a good job for Ellen."
"As it is with me and Katie and Claire, it's all done from so much love," added Hathaway. Love, and a lot of sideways talking!
