Love found Anne Hathaway before she was ready. In the new issue of Harper's Bazaar UK, the Les Miserables actress reveals that it was love at first sight with husband Adam Shulman -- and it terrified her!
"I knew from the second I met him that he was the love of my life. I also knew that I couldn't have met him at a worse time," the actress tells the magazine. "I took my trust out for a ridiculous joyride with him. It was scary."
At the time, Hathaway, 30, was still reeling from her break-up with Raffaello Follieri, the Italian businessman who was secretly involved in shady dealings (and ultimately ended up going to prison). Because of his betrayal, she found it difficult to trust again. But once she decided to take the leap with Shulman, says the actress, "I found that the love I found for him made me more trusting of everyone, and the more I started to see who I had become."
Since marrying Shulman in September, Hathaway hasn't stopped smiling about it -- which became a problem when it came time to film her tragic scenes in Les Miserables. "A few days into [filming], I said, 'I'm having too much fun, I just want to play with you and I need to be really sad right now,'" she recalls.
"He walks into a room, and I light up. I can't help it," the actress gushes.
Now that she's happily married, there's just one more thing that Hathaway wants to change about her life: her squeaky-clean image.
"I'm not Rihanna. I'm not cool," she says. "For a long time...I was seen as this bizarre-world good-girl cartoon that I in no way identified with -- very vanilla, very sweet, very accessible and not interesting. I had no grit, no sex appeal."
Uh, has she seen herself in a Catwoman costume?
