Unless she was really into conjugal visits, Anne Hathaway got out of this relationship just in time.
The actress' ex, Raffaello Follieri was sentenced in Manhattan federal court Thursday to 4½ years in prison. The shady businessman pleaded guilty last month to 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy.
Through an interpreter, Raf released this statement:
"The most important thing I want the court to know is I was not raised with bad values. ... I started off with good intentions, determined to run an honorable business and make everyone proud of me. What I did was wrong and there is no point in making excuses. ... I will never be able to wash away the shame. ... I just hope that someday those who have been hurt by my actions will forgive me."
His lawyer said that the crook started with good intentions, but then he "sunk and sunk into a quagmire of his own making."
He's just sorry he got caught -- and dumped. I hope Anne is celebrating her freedom from this jerk, because he won't be for a while.
