After a breakup, there's always the matter of what to do with the jewelry. Keep for sentimental value, or rid yourself of painful memories by selling? Unfortunately, for Anne Hathaway, she won't get to choose, as her gifts from swindling ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri will now be put up for auction after being collected as evidence.
The FBI seized about a dozen items (including a $25,000 gold Rolex watch, a pair of silver diamond earrings, a silver chain with a cross pendant, two gold rings, a five-strand pearl necklace and a Louis Vuitton box) that Follieri, 31, gave to his famous ex-girlfriend during their relationship, according to The New York Post.
Hathaway, 27, turned over the gifts in August 2008 in light of Follieri's arrest for fraud charges. Follieri, who scammed more than $2 million out of investors, has since been sentenced to 4½ years in prison after pleading guilty to 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy, People reports. Follieri said at his sentencing, "I will never be able to wash away the shame," and "I just hope that someday those who have been hurt by my actions will forgive me."
While an auction date has not yet been set, Hathaway -- best known for her roles in The Devil Wears Prada and Rachel Getting Married (which earned her an Oscar nomination) -- was given the option to bid exclusively on her former possessions, but the actress has reportedly decided not to.
