I recommend that you take your new cat or kitten to see a qualified veterinarian as soon as possible, to evaluate its overall health and to get you on the right track caring for your new friend. To take full advantage of your veterinarian's talents, you should now considering seeing him or her at least once each year, to maintain your cat's good health and to catch any potentially serious illnesses before they become an issue.
Most cat owners bring their cat in for an initial visit but never think of going to the vet again unless their cat gets sick. If you do this, your cat will be missing out on needed vaccinations, and, more importantly, the trained eye of a caring professional who might spot a serious condition in the early stages - something you wouldn't necessarily catch in time. Even if your feline friend seems to be in the best condition, be sure to visit your veterinarian at least once each year to ensure your cat receives the best attention.
