Yes, splurge on a glazed doughnut, says Kelly O’Connor, R.D., director of diabetes education at The Center for Endocrinology at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore. “The bagel is the choice most people would make but the doughnut typically has fewer calories and significantly fewer carbohydrates,” says O’Connor. The doughnut has 22 grams of carbs vs. 65 grams in a typical bagel. And since most people pair their bagel with butter or cream cheese, you’re likely saving even more calories by opting for the doughnut.
