iVillager nw_dee shares her variation of mincemeat pie. She suggests using a combination of cooking apples such as Jonagold, Jonathan, Macintosh, Rome, Newton Pippen, Winesap or Golden Delicious for the best flavor.
| 1/2 cup sugar | 4 cups apples, peeled and chopped | |
| 1 tablespoon flour | 3 cups mincemeat | |
| 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon | 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped | |
| 1 dash nutmeg | 2 tablespoons butter | |
| 1/8 teaspoon salt | 1 9 inch pie crust, enough for a double crust |
Combine sugar, flour, spices and salt in bowl.
Add apples, mix lightly.
Add mincemeat and walnuts, mix.
Heap into pastry lined 9-inch pie pan, dot with butter.
Adjust top crust, flute edges, and cut vents.
Brush top crust with milk, sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in 425°F oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until crust is browned and apples are tender.
Cool on rack.
