With just a handful of ingredients, you can make a jar of homemade applesauce that is far superior to anything from a plastic cup. Leave the apple skins on for extra fiber and color, or peel the apples first if you prefer a smoother, more uniform sauce.

| 6 sweet baking apples, cored and cut into 1-inch pieces | 1 cinnamon stick | |
| juice of 1/2 lemon | 1 ground cinnamon | |
| 1/4 cup water |
Place apples in a large shallow pot with a lid. Combine the lemon juice and water and drizzle over the apples. Add the cinnamon stick to the pot, cover and cook over very low heat, stirring every few minutes. If a lot of water collects in the pot, cook without the cover until some of the liquid cooks off. Using the back of a wooden spoon, mash the apples into the side of the pot as you stir. When applesauce has reached desired consistency, stir in the ground cinnamon. Let cool and serve.
