The Apprentice: LA Recap

Welcome back Apprentice fans! Once again we pick up where we left off ... After Aimee gets the boot, Derek and Jenn head back to an eagerly awaiting Kinetic, who are camped out in the backyard. Derek rehashes the boardroom scene, and to prove her worth, Jenn decides to step up as PM for Kinetic for the next task. Cut to Derek's camera confessional that he plans to take Jenn down if the lose. Meanwhile back on the Arrow side, Frank, James and Tim discuss the awkwardness of being led by Surya, who is PM again for their team since last week's win. Frank likens Surya to the kid on the playground trying hard to fit in, but just doesn't. The guys agree that they would all like to see someone else as project manager.

On to this week's task ...

Randal, season 4's Apprentice, is playing Trump's "eyes and ears" for the task this week. I liked Randal a lot, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he fits into this week's episode. The keyword for the task is "luxury" and the teams meet with two executives from Lexus, who describe this week's task is to create a luxury experience for potential Lexus customers. The focus? Lexus' new 2007 LS 460. Each team gets $50K in seed money to plan and stage their event. Teams will be rated by customer satisfaction surveys and the highest overall rating will win. As we've seen in other tasks, the customer-rating factor can be huge and often brings out the best and the worst in the teams.

With the LS 460's intuitive features, such as automatic parallel parking, the Kinetic gang feel that "a sixth sense" theme would fit perfectly with their event. Derek suggests they include something mystical, like a tarot reader or a magician. Because a magician spells luxury, I guess. Sixth sense? I definitely see dead people. In addition, Jenn wants to provide a go-kart experience for their attendees. As the rest of the team pull together the event details, Heidi and Muna go to the Lexus representative to learn the ins and outs of the car and its features.

In Arrow's war room, Surya is writing a novel on the white board while the team is discussing ideas -- but apparently none of what Surya is writing has anything to do with what the team is doing. Frank hops on the phone to start arranging for the event, while Stefani tries to coordinate some of the other details. Tim and Nicole flirt with each other while trying to talk about product knowledge as James makes gagging sounds. Surya is still furiously writing on the white board:

Event day is here and Surya's tie is screaming "Lexus!" (According to Surya). At the event site Surya is the emcee, which should make you cringe, but Stefani and Frank really were the ones running the event, making sure everything went smoothly. The event is going well and the fancy hors d’oeurves seem to be a hit. Even though we didn't see any of the Arrow team learn anything about the car, they seem to be delighting the customers, showing off the car's bells and whistles. Since so many people were using the massage seats in the features demo, the battery dies in one of Arrow's cars, so no one can see the features. This is potentially a really bad turn of events...

At Kinetic's event, Jenn starts out by giving a presentation on something she says she's "making up on the spot". This is very apparent, to both her team and everyone else at the event. Then, after the horrible presentation, Jenn rounds everyone up for the go-kart experience. Randal stands by in amazement.

While the customers at Kinetic's event were driving go-karts, the folks at Arrow's event were actually driving the LS 460. Imagine that! They all love the fact that the car could park itself. Which seems like enough entertainment value to carry a whole event. I don't believe that go karts can park themselves. But maybe I'm wrong.

Back in the boardroom, the results are in and Randal reads the customer comments. Everyone seemed to enjoy Arrow's event and they receive a 94% overall rating. On the other hand, Kinetic's customers weren't so impressed with the go-karts after all and they receive an 84% overall rating.

Not only does Arrow Corp. retain rights to stay in the mansion, their reward? Create a new song with Snoop Dogg. Yes, that's right, Surya and Snoop. Donald then actually says "f-shizzle" and I think this may be my very favorite Apprentice moment ever. At Snoop's studio, James and Frank get their freak style on and it's painful, yet hilarious. Quite possibly the weirdest reward, but who can resist Snoop?

Kinetic makes its way back into the boardroom after some last minute strategy in the camp. Randal digs in immediately to contrast Kinetic's event with Arrow's and reiterates that it was just not as good. The topic of the go karts comes up and blame points back and forth but it comes down to that apparently it was Derek's original idea (I don't remember this, but ok). The Donald tears into Derek about go karts not conveying luxury, Derek tries to play it off as just it being something off the top of his head (mistake #1) and then off the cuff mentions that he doesn't necessarily know luxury because he's "white trash" and eats at restaurants with fried appetizer. Why would Donald want someone who thinks they're white trash working for him? That's what Trump wants to know and berates Derek for even saying that and then decides it was such a stupid move, that he fires him right on the spot. Yikes! But wait ... there's more! The Donald still has some of that "You're Fired" spirit left and goes back to the rest of the Kinetic team to find out who was really to blame for the loss. Jenn keeps blaming Derek, but she's fading fast as the rest of the team places the fault directly on her. She tries to sputter a defense, but to no avail and in another weird boardroom moment she stops Trump just before being fired to have her team confirm they still respect her. They all say they do -- presumably because they know she's about to be fired anyway -- and then Donald drops the axe. The Kinetic girls wave a teary good-bye to Jenn from the mansion steps as another week of The Apprentice: LA ends.

What did you think of this week's Apprentice? Did you agree with Trump's reaction to Derek? Did the right people get fired? Who are you rooting for and who needs to go next? Dish all the Apprentice dirt here with your fellow fans! Until next week...
