Sweet Chicken Nuggets, Frosting-Filled Grilled Cheese and More April Fools' Day Food Pranks

Have some fun with these edible tricks -- they're guaranteed to leave the whole family laughing (then asking for seconds)

Macaroni Salad, Chicken Nuggets & French Fries

We are on the fence on whether this is cruel or genius -- it depends on whether your kids love sweets or salty snacks. If they like salty, they’ll be shocked to learn that this fast food meal is actually made of pound cake and coated Rice Krispie treats!

For the chicken nuggets, blogger Jo Vanderwolf molded Rice Krispie treats into a chicken nugget shape then dipped them into melted white chocolate and crushed cornflakes. The macaroni salad is made of white Tootsie Rolls, green and orange Starburst candies and vanilla pudding. And who knew -- putting pound cake through a crinkle cutter makes it look exactly like French fries!

Snow Cone Cupcakes

These all-American snow cones look like the perfect cool down treat, but nope! Angie Dudley of Bakerella used frosting and shiny sprinkles to transform cupcakes into icy-looking treats.

Shepherd’s Rice Krispies Pie

This April Fool’s Day, serve up this British staple but in a slightly different form. To recreate this sweet trick from Party Pinching, use chocolate Rice Krispies Treats to replace the ground beef, orange and green taffy bits for the peas and carrots and melty marshmallowy goodness blasted under the broiler for a few seconds in place of the usual mashed potatoes.

Egg and Toast Dessert

Breakfast for dessert? Guess again -- almond pound cake, yogurt and canned apricot halves make up this "breakfast" of champions. The specks of ground almonds in the cake taste great and help each slice to look like a real piece of bread.

"Grilled Cheese" Sandwich

A classic American staple is transformed into a classic April Fool’s joke courtesy of Yummly. The gooey cheesy goodness is actually buttercream frosting sandwiched between two thick slices of sponge cake.

Sugared Chocolate Pretzels

Celebrating Cookies

Trick the beer drinker (or after-school snacker) in your life with these pretzels. They look savory but are made with chocolate and sprinkled with sugar.

Chinese Takeout Cupcakes

What’s New Cupcake?

It may look like fried rice and vegetable lo-mein, but this Chinese food is for dessert, not dinner. The "rice" is made of puffed rice cereal, the "noodles" are piped frosting and the realistic-looking "broccoli" is made of green fruit chews with frosting and nonpareils.

Mashed Potato Sundae

Make everyone think they’re having dessert for dinner with these “sundaes” from Bake at 350. What looks like vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce is actually mashed potatoes and gravy. Complete with a cherry, er, cherry tomato on top.

Your kids will be stunned when they think you’re serving them a cupcake for dinner. They'll discover the trick when they take one bite of these tasty mini meat loaves topped with creamy potatoes -- but this kid-pleasing combination won't disappoint.

Mini Cookie Burgers

These mini sliders by Party Pinching blogger Norene Coz may look like lunch, but they’re more appropriate for dessert. Made with Thin Mint cookie “patties” sandwiched between sesame seed-topped Vanilla Wafers, they are adorable for football parties too.

Deviled Eggs

To play a trick (albeit a cruel one) on your deviled egg-loving friends, do like Yummly and swap the creamy egg yolk filling for sugary yellow frosting and a sprinkle of spicy cinnamon.

Shrimp Mocktail

Is this a fancy shrimp cocktail or a deceiving April Fool’s trick? Cox from Party Pinching expertly constructed the shrimp out of Rice Krispie Treats and wrapped them in painted fondant. And because you can’t have shrimp cocktail without all the usual accoutrements, she added mocktail sauce (strawberry preserves), fondant chives and a miniature lemon candy.

Undrinkable Juice

 Undrinkable Juice

You’ll have to hold back giggles when you watch your kids try to take a sip of this gelled juice. A strategically placed straw makes for a much more believable “drink,” but you could also set the Jell-O in a large pitcher and watch various members of your family hilariously try to pour themselves a cup.
