Against the odds, the Kardashians have built a multi-million dollar empire from their endless desire for attention. Now, the first family of reality TV may be expanding into new territory: a magazine devoted entirely to their lives.
Page Six reports that the Kardashian ladies are "close to landing a deal" for their own glossy publication, produced by the media company that owns Star, The National Enquirer and Shape. And while all of those magazines have profited from Kardashian-themed stories, Page Six says that the magazine idea originated with Kris Jenner and daughters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney.
"This is a Kardashian idea," says a source. "They have been reaching out to several media outlets."
In fact, the women plan to take an active role in Kardashian Magazine, or whatever they choose to call it. (Dash Weekly? Kardashian Life? Kim and Friends?) The report claims that the sisters will be "heavily involved editorially" and that their mother, while she won't be the actual editor-in-chief, will "certainly be pulling the strings."
We can't help but think that if the Kardashians were given free editorial reign, they'd just commission lots of photo shoots of themselves in pretty clothes. And people would probably buy that. But in truth, all the Kardashians would have to do is steal the content that other magazines are already running about them. Kim's diet secrets, Kourtney's baby news, Khloe's marriage updates -- if the Kardashians had their own magazine, these could all be exclusives. It's almost ingenious.
On the other hand, we can't imagine that the Kardashians would want to give up any press coverage, even in rival magazines. In that vein, some insiders are guessing that the Kardashian magazine will be more of a straightforward fanzine, something like a print version of Kim's Celebuzz blog. In that case, there would probably be lots of family photos, Q&As with the sisters, and coverage of the latest Kardashian products. Then Kris would still be free to sell her daughters' newsier stories to other news outlets.
Speaking of which, Us Weekly reports that Kim, Khloe and Kourtney will soon be hitting toy shelves as fashion-forward, limited-edition Barbie dolls. It's not your imagination: the Kardashians really are everywhere!
