Are there signs to burp my baby?
How will I know when to burp my baby?
Question:Burp your baby when he comes off the breast, begins to feed less effectively or gets fussy. Watching your baby for signs of needing to burp is the beginning of the communication process.
Remember not to limit the time on either breast. Sometimes a baby wants to breastfeed on one breast, and sometimes both.
Over your shoulder, seated or across your lap are all effective ways to burp your baby. In each position, support your baby’s head so there is no strain on his neck. When your baby sits on your lap for burping, place your fingers on his cheeks to support his head, rather than on his neck. Pat or rub his back for one to two minutes.
Positioning your baby so there is some gentle pressure on his abdomen will also help bring up a burp. Burps can be heard or felt. Reluctance to continue the feeding or spitting up indicates more burping is needed.
