chime in nowThere was a time when only male news anchors and actors hit the derm’s office for Botox, the injectable substance that relaxes muscles on the forehead, between the eyes, and crow’s feet so that they appear less wrinkled. But now regular guys are showing up for a little skin rejuvenation. Last year 300,000 guys got a shot or two of Botox, up 10% over the previous year.
Botox is most popular with 35- to 55 year-olds, says David Bank, MD, Director of The Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery in Mount Kisco, New York, and Assistant Clinical Professor in Dermatology at Columbia University in New York City. It may be men at midlife who want to look less tired on the job or are back in the dating pool. On the other hand, “some people genetically furrow their brow when concentrating or listening, giving the appearance that they’re angry or don’t quite believe what you’re saying,” says Dr. Bank. Wives and girlfriends are even giving their guys Botox gift certificates!
The procedure itself literally takes five minutes with no recovery time. “We go for a very natural look. It’s softening, not obliterating,” says Dr. Bank. Perfect for the youthful, fun-loving guy who wants to look fresh, not frozen.
