Are You Pregnant: What Are The Symptoms of Pregnancy?
What are the early symptoms of pregnancy? We think my wife is in her first month. Her period is almost a month late, and she is exhausted all the time. She also has been nauseous with some vomiting, dizziness and headache. Could she be pregnant?Question:
The symptoms of early pregnancy include all of those your wife is experiencing, especially tiredness and nausea (feeling of fullness, poor appetite, bloating) and vomiting or the feeling that you may vomit (not just in the morning, but at any time). Dizziness and headache are less common but can be very normal.
Unfortunately, these symptoms are similar to those of a virus, a common cold or flu, as well as pregnancy. Breast tenderness, especially around the nipple area, and frequency in urination are also symptoms of pregnancy, but even these can have other sources. A missed period also is a potential symptom. I had an instructor once who said the only certain sign of pregnancy was the delivery of a baby.
Because these might be indicative of some other problem -- and also because it is so important to be seen early in pregnancy -- she should get an appointment with a midwife or doctor as soon as possible. You could do a home pregnancy test, which is quite reliable, but this should not delay your visit to a clinic. In the meantime, make sure she is eating a very good diet and taking a folic acid supplement and not smoking or drinking any alcohol.
