Aretha Franklin Recovering After "Highly Successful Surgery"

Legendary singer Aretha Franklin underwent a mystery surgery early Thursday morning, but the Grammy-winning star assured fans she is doing well.

"The surgery was highly successful," the 68-year-old singer said in a statement. "God is still in control. I had superb doctors and nurses whom were blessed by all the prayers of the city and the country. God bless you all for your prayers!"

Franklin and her camp have not yet revealed what exactly is wrong with the singer. But her publicist announced in November that Franklin had canceled all her live performances through May 2011.

Over the summer Franklin took a spill at her home and subsequently cracked two ribs. The fall caused Franklin to experience abdominal pain as well as miss two charity shows in Brooklyn.
