Nearly every celebrity couple who divorces cites "irreconcilable differences," but when Maria Shriver filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger six months ago, she had an especially strong case. Yet lately, it seems like the Schwarzeneggers and Shrivers are one happy family again. Is Maria having second thoughts about leaving her marriage?
Over the Christmas holiday, Shriver, 56, and Arnold, 57, celebrated together with their four children, Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher. The reunited family spent Christmas at the L.A. Lakers' season opener game, then headed back to their Brentwood home. (That's the same home, we'd like to note, where Arnold carried on an affair and conceived a love child with longtime housekeeper Mildred Baena. Maybe the happy memories outweigh the awkwardness?)
Around that same time, TMZ reported that Shriver was having reservations about following through with the divorce because of her strong Catholic beliefs. The website also reported that Arnold was trying desperately to save the 25-year marriage, being "extremely sweet" and showering Maria with presents and romantic gestures.
And now, it appears that both Shriver and Schwarzenegger are suddenly wearing their wedding rings again. Arnold, who hasn't been seen with his wedding band in months, was photographed sporting the ring this week. Shortly afterward, Shriver was spotted with jewelry on her ring finger -- although it's unclear from the blurry shot if it's actually her wedding ring. (See the photos above.) It could be a sign that they're giving this marriage a second chance.
Or maybe not. Shriver filed for divorce from Schwarzenegger back in July, two months after it was revealed that he was the father of Baena's teenage son. But their first reunion took place just weeks later, when Maria joined Arnold for his 64th birthday lunch. Maybe they're committed to staying close for the sake of their children (the youngest of whom is 13-year-old Christopher). Or maybe Maria just has an amazing capacity for forgiveness, and really wants to make this marriage work in the end. If that's the case, Arnold had better step up his game; it's going to take a lot to convince us that he's good enough for his own wife!
