Ashlee Simpson-Wentz will have to find a new place to hang her hat, as she and Melrose Place costar Colin Egglesfield have been cut from the drama.
The bigwigs over at show say that Ashlee and Colin's short run was “the original plan going into the development of the show. We felt that once the murder mystery [involving their characters] was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift," executive producer Todd Slavkin told Entertainment Weekly. "And [Simpson-Wentz's] character would move on.”
There didn't seem to be any hard feelings on Ashlee's part, as she released this statement after the announcement about her firing was made:
“Having the chance to play Violet on Melrose Place has been a thrill," she said. "Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to the CW and the entire cast and crew of Melrose Place for allowing me this opportunity.”
Slavkin concurred that both Ashlee and Colin took the news “like professionals. Because they knew ahead of time [that leaving was a possibility], it wasn’t a complete shock.”
Next up for the show: Heather Locklear's return – who Slavkin is calling "a major focus" of the show.
We say, "Bring on Amanda!"
