Ashley Benson is taking a bold stand against Photoshop. The Pretty Little Liars actress tweeted a horrified reaction to the new poster for her ABC Family show, in which she and co-stars Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario and Shay Mitchell have been airbrushed to Barbie-like perfection.
"Saw this floating around....hope it's not the poster," Benson, 23, wrote on Twitter and Instagram. "Our faces in this were from 4 years ago.....and we all look ridiculous. Way too much photo shop. We all have flaws. No one looks like this. It's not attractive."
Bellisario agreed, adding her own two cents on Instagram.
"Wow @itsashbenzo I couldn't agree more," she wrote. "Very cool concept as always. But aren't we attractive enough women as we are? Why can't we just look like us. Once."
Seriously -- if gorgeous actresses in their early 20s aren't flawless enough, then who is? The photoshopping of everything is seriously out of control. But we're impressed that Benson, young as she is, is principled enough to speak up. After posting that initial photo, she put this message up on Instagram:
So what happens now? If ABC Family pulls the ad, it will be a victory for all of us who are tired of seeing our favorite celebs airbrushed into oblivion. But seeing as the photo is already out there, it's probably too late for that. We hope that Benson isn't punished by the network for dissing her own ads. Best case scenario, ABC Family keeps the criticism in mind -- and comes up with a more realistic promotional campaign for Season 5.
