Should Twilight fans prepare themselves for the possible recasting of two of their favorite Cullens?
According to the original movie's director, Catherine Hardwicke, stars Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz have been in tense salary negotiations with the producers of the The Twilight Saga's fourth installment, Breaking Dawn -- and the results could be devastating for Twi-hards.
"It would really break my heart if they were replaced, but it could happen. Things could turn ugly quickly," Hardwicke, 54, said this weekend at the Twilight convention in Vancouver.
Both Greene, 23, and Lutz, 25, reportedly had a three-picture deal with Summit Studios which expired after they wrapped Eclipse, and both are now looking to make $1.5 million each for Breaking Dawn. But Hardwicke says the young actors are most likely being pushed in the money-hungry direction.
"They have all these people and outside influences telling you what to do," Hardwicke said. "They tell you to hold out for this much because you're such an important part of the franchise, and everyone is telling you to ask for more."
A similar situation didn't end well for Rachelle Lefevre, who was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for Eclipse. "A lot of stuff can get mishandled and misunderstood," she said. "That is what happened with Rachelle Lafevre."
So, does Harwicke think Lutz and Greene deserve the bigger pay day? "Probably they do deserve more money, on one level," she said. "But if everybody makes so much money then ... [shrugs]. It is very complicated. Oh my, it is such a mess. I really hope they can sort it out because it would be a shame to lose any actors."
