Ashley Greene has no problem with exposure these days. The actress, who plays Bella's vampire confidante Alice Cullen in the Twilight films, has recently appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and posed for Sports Illustrated wearing nothing but body paint. But there was a time when Greene's Twilight celebrity freaked her out -- seriously.
In the new issue of Interview magazine, Greene, 22, tells New Moon costar Michael Sheen that the unexpected media scrutiny after Twilight was upsetting at first.
"There was a moment in time where I was kind of having this mini-breakdown because it was all very new, and it was all being thrown at me really quickly," she said. "And I was going, 'Why are people reporting on this? Why do people care what I’m wearing or what I’m eating, and why are people looking down on me because I’m not wearing high heels?'”
It wasn't just footwear criticism that bothered Greene; it was the pressure of knowing fans were looking up to her character. "When girls come up and say, 'You’re my role model,' it’s really flattering, but it’s also really scary because I’m not perfect and I’m going to make mistakes."
These days, the actress has adjusted to the attention, and has resolved to "continue to live my life and do what I do. Hopefully, people love me because of who I am, not who I pretend to be." As for fans who "shake and cry" upon meeting her, "I give them a hug or whatever. People ask if I get annoyed, but you can't really get annoyed at something like that."
