America's Most Expensive Cities to Get a Haircut

It might pay to travel for a trim if you live in one of these U.S. towns

It really doesn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that women in New York City spend more on haircuts than other Americans, but when it comes to the average price men dole out for trimmed tresses, the award goes to the marginally more surprising San Francisco.

The stats come courtesy of Square, an app that allows you to accept credit cards via your iPhone, iPad or Android device, which used data from its nationwide payments to come up with the numbers.

For women, the top U.S. haircut prices on average are:

1. New York ($73)
2. San Francisco ($71)
3. Los Angeles ($69)
4. (Tie) Chicago and Dallas ($61)
5. Seattle ($40)
6. Denver ($48)
7. St. Louis ($45)
8. Minneapolis ($41)

For men, the prices are:

1. San Francisco ($49)
2. Los Angeles ($45)
3. New York ($37)
4. Seattle ($35)
5. St. Louis ($34)
6. (Tie) Denver, Dallas, Chicago ($32)
7. Minneapolis ($31)

The website Quartz points out prices in cities east of the Rocky Mountain Region are much more divided when it comes to gender, and that the data seems to show male vanity is a West Coast thing.

But whether you live on a coast, near the mountains or smack dab in the Midwest, the Square stats do show the price of haircuts don't come cheap. But if that means bad hair days are kept to a minimum? Well, that's something we consider priceless.
