Beware of what you post on Facebook. A 19-year-old Florida mom was recently arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after posting a photo of her baby holding a bong. First, people were getting robbed after posting status updates about their vacations. Now they’re getting arrested for having a bad sense of humor.
I have to be honest, I’ve seen FB pics of babies holding beers and even unlit cigarettes. Each time I see one, I think, "Why on earth would a parent post this for hundreds of people to see (or thousands, depending on the number of your FB friends and privacy settings)?" I get that some people may find it funny to see a baby doing adult things, the same way it’s amusing to see the puppets in "Avenue Q" curse. But I can’t imagine why anyone would use their own kid as the butt of the joke. Plus, in the bong photo, the baby looked like a seasoned stoner, and the bong seems to be filled with smoke. I’m not saying that this woman deserved to be arrested for having questionable taste, but the picture does suggest a less-than-ideal home environment.
For the record, the drug test came back negative and the baby was unharmed. Phew, now I can look forward to seeing pictures of him riding a mechanical bull, shot-gunning a beer and giving the finger.
