Just three days into 2014, a new baby name trend has emerged: The letter y.
According to the name blog NameCandy.com, the first 50 baby names of the new year are a diverse bunch, with few repeats, few names that are already on the country's top 10 list, and some rather unique spelling choices. But there is one common theme: Names that have the letter "y" in them.
Among the list: Adilyn, Brooklyn, Emery, Layla, Lily, Maya, Naythyn and Rylee.
Another common thread with many of these names, as Jezebel pointed out, is the "in/yn" sound that they share -- as Adilyn, Brooklyn, Naythyn and other list-makers Devin, Tenzin, Korbin and Declan all prove.
Considering that more and more parents are trying to find unique baby names for their offspring, we're not surprised that this list is all over the place. (In fact, as NameCandy.com noted, Brooklyn is the only name that appears twice.)
And we love the "Y" theme. But we've got to admit, we already feel for poor Naythyn, who's in for a lifetime of name-spelling corrections.
