Your baby will love rattles and other toys. He will be amazed by his ability to pick them up and will revel in their different textures and noises. Bear in mind that your baby will "taste" all toys, so make sure they're safe for him. Place your baby in the center of a blanket and place a few choice toys for him to grab and watch him go to town.
Be very careful of your baby's newfound ability to grasp an object that he wants. He could easily reach for a cup of coffee and burn himself. Never hold your baby while smoking, drinking a hot liquid or cooking. He is sure to be interested in what you're doing and does not understand the concept of "hot" yet. To protect your baby from tap water scalds, reduce the temperature of your hot water heater to between 120 degrees F and 130 degrees F. If your baby should be burned, immediately put the burned area in cold water and keep it there until he stops crying. Then cover the burn loosely with a clean cloth or bandage and call your baby's health care provider.
