Your Baby's 14th Week of Life

What's Happening with Your Baby

Watch out! Your little one is on his way to being mobile. He can probably roll over. At first you may see him roll from his stomach to back. It may shock him (and you) the first time, as he doesn't understand how he performed the feat, but soon he will realize that he can roll over to retrieve the toy that he wants, rather than just cry for it. Your little one may also be making a more dangerous move -- rolling from his back to his side. Be especially careful when changing your baby to keep your hand on him at all times or use the safety restraint on the changing table, so he doesn't take a tumble. You probably are also enjoying your baby's cooing, which is quite common at this stage. It's the perfect time to get out the video camera and catch these early vocalizations on film.

Taking Care of Yourself

This week, search out a group of moms with babies around the same age as yours. It can provide you with some much-needed support to spend time with others who are feeling the same things you are at this stage of parenthood. Many hospitals sponsor parent and baby groups, or you could check around your workplace or neighborhood. It could be just one or two parents with whom you take regular walks or a group with whom you meet. And bring your baby along. As you've probably noticed, it's easy to strike up a conversation with a stranger when your little one is the subject.
