For those of us who find ABC’s The Bachelor hopelessly addictive, here’s something to mark on your calendar: March 8, the televised wedding of Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney. According to the Los Angeles Times, the two-hour special wll feature wedding preparations, dress fittings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and of course, the ceremony and reception.
The topsy-turvy courtship of Mesnick and Malaney was one of the most controversial in The Bachelor series. Mesnick, the show’s first single dad, proposed to another contestant, Melissa Rycroft, in the finale of the 2009 season only to do an about-face, abruptly breaking up with Rycroft on camera to pursue runner-up Malaney instead.
But maybe this particular Bachelor saga proves that Hollywood endings really can happen. Despite being humiliated and heartbroken by the televised rejection, Rycroft got on with her life: she recently married Dallas insurance agent Tye Strickland.
The wedding extravaganza of Mesnick and Malaney, who got engaged in New Zealand in October, promises Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants on the guest list -- though presumably not Rycroft -- and possibly hundreds of red roses, just for good measure.
The last televised wedding in the franchise, between Bachelorette Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter, drew an astounding 17 million viewers. Considering all the buzz surrounding Mesnick and Malaney’s relationship, their wedding could attract an even bigger audience.
