Sometimes reality TV dreams do come true -- even ones that involve bunches of single people vying for a wedding ring from someone they hardly know. Case in point: last season's controversial Bachelor couple.
That's right: Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney are engaged.
The two almost never got together in the first place. In a rare twist to The Bachelor format, Jason reversed his original decision to pair up with Melissa Rycroft and gave his proverbial final rose to Malaney instead.
Since they announced their coupledom on the After the Final Rose special -- at which time Jason very publicly dumped Rycroft -- Jason and Molly have been in the throes of a serious long-distance relationship. On Tuesday Jason (who lives in Seattle) proposed to Molly (who lives in Milwaukee) while the two were on vacation in New Zealand.
According to the People.com, a source says Jason took her on the trip to "do what he should have done in the last time he was here, and ask Molly to marry him."
If they end up making it to the altar, Jason and Molly will be on a short list of reality TV couples who've made it work. Trista and Ryan Sutter of The Bachelorette are the most notable of these, but others have managed to keep it together long after the cameras stop rolling. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of The Hills come to mind, as do Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight of The Surreal Life. Then there's the popular Survivor couple, Amber Brkich (now Mariano) and Rob Mariano. But, of course, some don't survive the pressure of living on TV (Hi, John and Kate!). A surprising amount of these couples do make it work, though. The question is: for how long?
