We're down to two women on ABC's The Bachelor: Tenley Molzahn and Vienna Girardi. Tenley's the hopeful bride-to-be who showed up in promos informing Jake Pavelka that she was pregnant (the remark turned out to be a gag, which didn't even air...hilarious) and Vienna's been a frontrunner for weeks, ever since she and Pavelka bonded during a frightening bungee-jumping date.
The other women in the house have been vocal about their dislike for Vienna (and in recent weeks, the tabloids have giddily waded through her murky past -- including a former marriage to a Marine that went sour; he has accused his ex of draining his bank account). "I will say this for Vienna," said host Chris Harrison in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I think she's gotten a very bad rap."
Maybe so, but everyone in Bachelor-ville is talking about Vienna and whether she's Mrs. Right for Jake.
The conversation continues tonight, during the "Women Tell All" episode (8 p.m. ET on ABC). "I think that all of us as people need to be supportive of Vienna, because she's getting trashed in the tabloids," says Vienna's greatest nemesis, Ali Fedotowsky. "She's a person. We all lived with her. We all know her. No one deserves that." She's a person? Not exactly a ringing endorsement!
Pavelka's already stepped forward to defend his decision to keep Vienna around. During an interview with CBS's The Insider, the hunky airplane pilot seems genuinely baffled by the vitriol. "Nobody has been able to tell me anything she's done wrong," he says ruefully. "Nothing."
But lest we forget, The Bachelor creates drama through the magic of editing. Producers probably knew the identity of the winner before they started splicing the footage into episodes. So why not ratchet up the intrigue by making Vienna appear, through selective editing, like a pariah and a long shot?
Of course, the most anticipated guest on "The Women Tell All" will be Rozlyn Papa, the photogenic blonde who got booted early in the season when the network discovered that she allegedly became involved with a crew member during taping of Bachelor episodes. The single mom is seen in advance clips facing rows of her fellow former contestants, many of whom make no effort to hide their hostility about Papa's behavior while she makes attempts to explain herself. Will the fallen beauty be labeled with a scarlet letter? Not if she can help it. Talk about a hot seat! Makes The Bachelor look like a rowdy episode of that original reality hit, The People's Court!
