Yes, academics are most important. But who are we kidding -- back to school shopping is a huge part of the fun! We talked to our favorite children's clothing designers, trend forecasters, department store fashion directors and stylists to find out what’s trendiest (and cutest) for the new school season.

Country Club Chic
This year’s twist on the prep trend is all about the "hipster prep": adding hipster-like embellishments to traditional preppy clothes. NYC-based wardrobe stylist and trend forecaster Annie Nicholas says everything from tweed jackets, pleated skirts and bow ties will be popular for the girls. For boys, Josh Saterman, vice president/fashion director -- millennial for Macy's, adds that this year's Ivy League-inspired looks "draw inspiration from the iconic uniform of shipyard workers" -- pea coats, Henleys, dark-rinsed denim and lug sole boots.
