From controversial movie roles like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas to real-life drug use and arrests, Johnny Depp made his mark as Hollywood’s bad boy on-and-off the big screen.
When the sexy stud dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career, he accidently stumbled upon his true calling -- acting. It isn’t only Johnny’s swoon-worthy looks that makes him the star he is today, but it’s also his ability to transform himself into the quirky, unconventional and wacky characters that he brings to life so well.
Let's take a stroll down memory lane at how the young star of 21 Jump Street became Hollywood’s leading man!

Before Johnny's cool and sexy style sparked a teenage frenzy, he was married to make-up artist Lori Allison. Although the marriage only lasted two years, it changed his life forever. Johnny was introduced to an agent by his wife's friend, Nicolas Cage. He later landed his first film role, Nightmare on Elm Street, in 1984. "Here I was, this skinny kid with tattoos and spiky hair and all that," Johnny told ABC News. "And miraculously, they hired me for the gig."

Have you even wondered what Johnny's "Wino Forever" tattoo means? The actor altered his original "Winona Forever" ink after the split. This was also the year he collaborated with director Tim Burton for the first time with Edward Scissorhands.

After a night of drinking and fighting with Kate, Johnny was arrested after he trashed his hotel room, leaving almost $10,000 in damages.
Ron Galella/WireImageWhen one door closes, another door opens! After his split from Kate in 1998, it didn't take long before Johnny found love with actress Vanessa Paradis. "I saw this back and this neck. And I thought 'My God, what's that?'" He tells ABC. "And suddenly, the back turned to face me, like you know, from 20, 30 yards away and it made eye contact… That was it." Johnny didn't let his new love distract him from his career. The actor worked the red carpet at the premiere of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

"It's the only thing I want to be good at in my life."
