In the Bag

Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth has inspired millions to help save the planet, and now furniture warehouse Ikea is pitching in, one bag at a time.

To help reduce plastic bag litter “that is strangling our planet,” Ikea will now charge shoppers 5 cents for each plastic bag they leave the store with. To save you money, and help the Earth, Ikea is encouraging customers to purchase the 59 cents reusable Blue Bag, pictured above.

Proceeds from the sale of the 5-cent plastic bags will be donated to American Forests, a nonprofit conservation organization that plants trees to restore forests and offset CO2 emissions.

The Bag the Plastic Bag program will begin on March 15th.

What do you think about this program? Should corporations be more eco-friendly?
