Bake Crunchy Dog Biscuits

Here is a recipe for a tasty treat that's fun to make. These crunchy nuggets will help clean your dog's teeth, too.

Makes 24 biscuits


1 cup whole-wheat flour

1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour plus extra for sprinkling on a countertop

1/2 cup cornmeal plus extra for rolling finished biscuits

2 tablespoons chopped parsley

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup soymilk

1 cup chicken bouillon

4 tablespoons vegetable oil plus extra for coating the cookie sheet

Preheat the oven to 400 F. In a bowl combine whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cornmeal, parsley and salt. In a separate bowl, combine the soymilk, bouillon and vegetable oil. Pour one-third of the bouillon mixture into the empty bowl; mix thoroughly. Pour another one-third of each mixture into the bowl and combine. Finally, add the rest of each mixture and mix thoroughly. Sprinkle some all-purpose flour on a clean countertop and knead the dough there. Add additional flour on the countertop as necessary to prevent sticking.

Place about 1/4 cup cornmeal into the small bowl. Break off a pingpong-ball-size piece of dough and roll it into a ball. Place this ball into the cornmeal bowl and roll it around to coat the dough with cornmeal. Place all these balls on an oiled cookie sheet about one inch apart. Press down twice with the fork on each ball, making a crisscross pattern on the top.

Bake 20 minutes. Once all the biscuits are baked, turn off the oven. Leave them in the oven for several hours to harden. Store biscuits in a plastic freezer bag in the refrigerator or, if for more than one week, in the freezer. Let a treat from the freezer defrost for a few hours before giving it to your dog.
