Balloon Breaths

Improves focus and mind/body awareness, and helps to ease anxiety.

How to do it: Sit with back straight, knees bent and dropped open to the sides, one foot in front of the other, ankles uncrossed. Rest hands on knees, palms facing up. Close your eyes and focus on your body and your breathing. Inhale slowly, counting to three and filling your lungs like a big balloon in all directions, pause, and then exhale for three counts. Continue for three minutes. Keep your child engaged by asking him questions like, “Can you keep your shoulders still?” “What color is your balloon?” “ Is it easy or hard to sit tall?”
