This is my secret weapon to get the day off to a good start, and no one is the wiser. The blueberries are not only packed with antioxidants, they're also dark enough to hide the raw spinach in the recipe. There's also a bit of almond butter for some protein and some healthy flax seed, too.
Recipe by Rori Trovato
| 2 large bananas | 1 tablespoon flax seed oil or whole flax seeds | |
| 2 cups frozen blueberries | 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup | |
| 1 1/2 cups loosely packed spinach leaves | 2 1/2 cups milk (almond or rice milk can also be used) | |
| 2 tablespoons almond butter |
Place everything except 1 cup of the milk into the blender and start by pulsing to chop all the ingredients until they are all mixed together (stop the machine and stir if needed)
Then puree until smooth and slowly add the remaining cup of milk
Serve cold with sliced whole-grain toast if desired.
