This is one election year that Bar Refaeli will never forget. For the first time in the magazine's history, Maxim made its annual Hot 100 list a democracy, letting readers determine the 100 most beautiful women in the world. After the votes were tallied, the Israeli supermodel walked away with the election, winning the No. 1 spot. In the accompanying photo shoot, the beautiful swimsuit model (and Leonardo DiCaprio's ex-girlfriend) lounges naked on silk sheets.
"I am shocked that among all these beautiful ladies, I'm No. 1," Refaeli, 26, told the magazine. "Thank you so much for voting for me! I'm truly honored."
Joining Rafaeli in the top 10 are Olivia Munn (No. 2), Mila Kunis (No. 3), Katy Perry (No. 4), Olivia Wilde (No. 5), Jennifer Lawrence (No. 6), Emma Stone (No. 7), Megan Fox (No. 8), Malin Akerman (No. 9) and Adrianne Palicki (No. 10).
All of these women seem like a natural fit for a list of the world's most beautiful women -- but leaving the vote up to readers yielded a few surprises. For the first time ever, a man ended up on the list: comedian Stephen Colbert, a write-in candidate who got enough votes to rise to No. 69.
"The Colbert Nation turned out in force," explains Maxim editor Dan Bova. "As we say: Democracy isn't pretty, but this time, it was downright handsome."
Not all of the write-in candidates made the cut. While WWE wrestler Layla El (No. 95) and Castle star Stana Katic (No. 80) finished strong, Community's Allison Brie and former Senator of Nevada Elizabeth Halseth were left on the cutting room floor. (Mark our words, though: Brie is a sure bet for next year's list.)
And, of course, there are a few Maxim reader choices that just make us go "Huh?" Amanda Knox, who's only famous because she was accused of murder, managed to rank No. 92. Even creepier? Dalena Henriques, the headless swimsuit model from the Ford Mustang ads, was one of the most popular write-in votes. Finally, there's No. 85: Family Guy's Lois Griffin, who, last time we checked, was a cartoon character. Just when we think we've finally got men figured out...
