Barbara Walters is a bit ticked off at Lindsay Lohan.
The troubled celebrity cancelled her planned appearance with Walters on 20/20 last week because she, according to Walters, didn't "feel up to it." So the esteemed newswoman is right to be a little peeved that Lohan, 26, has now turned around and accepted an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote Liz & Dick instead. "If they'd said to me 'You know, Barbara, she isn't up to the kinds of questions that you might ask' ... I wouldn't feel quite as disappointed as I do today," Walters admits to her peers on The View.
She recalls asking Lohan's representative, "Why was [the interview] cancelled?" to which the rep told her, "Lindsay doesn't feel up to it." "I mean, she has a lot of problems, and it was just one more. I said, 'Poor girl, I hope when she feels like it, she will do it with us,'" Walters says of her conversation.
It will be interesting to see if that open invitation is still there now that Lohan has slighted her. Walters claims she had prepared a "wonderful, wonderful interview" with the starlet where she would have compared her life to that of Elizabeth Taylor and would have allowed Lohan to "set a lot of things straight."
"I like Lindsay Lohan very much. I've known her for years since she was a very little girl," Walters says. "She said whenever she did an interview, she would sit down and do it with me."
As for picking Jay Leno over her, Walters claims, "As far as Jay goes, I love Jay. More power to him. I think I would have helped her. I think to go on Jay Leno and be adorable and amusing, there's still all the problems with her."
Lohan will appear on The Tonight Show on Nov. 20. Liz & Dick premieres on Lifetime on Nov. 25.
