Every December, Barbara Walters has her own holiday tradition: sitting down for an exclusive interview with the year's "Ten Most Fascinating People." On Monday's The View, Walters revealed some of her picks for this year's ABC special, including an Olympian, a bestselling first-time novelist, a boy band, and a Hollywood heartthrob who has reinvented himself as a director. But who will nab the #1 spot?
First up on Walters' 2012 list is Gabby Douglas, the 16-year-old gymnast who took home two gold medals in this summer's Olympics, becoming the first African-American all-around champion. Then we have the five boys of One Direction (who count as one "person" for the sake of Walters' tally); they may have come home empty-handed from Sunday's American Music Awards, but they've certainly stolen plenty of young hearts!
On the political side of things, Walters will be speaking with Hillary Clinton, who will soon step down as U.S. Secretary of State, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a polarizing figure who won many new admirers with his handling of the Hurricane Sandy crisis.
Then there's E.L. James, British author of the erotic-novel sensation Fifty Shades of Grey; Family Guy creator and Ted director Seth MacFarlane, who will be hosting the 2013 Oscars; and Ben Affleck, whose film Argo has solidified his standing as an Oscar-worthy director.
So now the question is: who will fill out the rest of Walters' list? She has three more names under wraps, one of whom she'll declare the year's Most Fascinating Person. Will it be Paul Ryan or Mitt Romney? Maybe Nicki Minaj or Jennifer Lawrence? No wait -- it's gotta be Honey Boo Boo, right? We'll find out when Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012 airs on Dec. 12th -- or earlier, if she slips up and spills the beans on The View!
