Basket Garden

If you have the urge to tend a garden but snow is keeping you inside, create this colorful and fragrant basket garden to brighten a windowsill or dress up a dining table.

Supplies:

  • Basket (I used a low rectangle, but you could recycle any basket you have around the house)
  • 3 plastic storage bags, cut in half horizontally, to line the basket
  • 2 cups pea stones
  • 3-4 herb plants (thyme, sage, marjoram)
  • Flowering plants (like primroses, mini daffodils, tulips and hyacinths)
  • Sheet moss

Directions:

Line the basket with the storage bags. Divide pea stones among the bags for drainage. Arrange plants in bags (tall plants toward the center of the basket, smaller plants around the perimeter) and water thoroughly. Cover plants' roots and plastic bags with moist sheet moss. Mist and water plants daily.
